About OPEN
Committees | Goals | Organization

Oregon Public Education Network was founded as a grassroots effort and formalized as an Oregon Associated Education Service District-sponsored (OAESD) project in 1995. OPEN's mission is to enable all of Oregon's K-12 schools to participate in a coordinated information network allowing for students and educators to reach technology based classes and resources. OPEN builds on successful regional networks to offer a wide range of networks and educational services targeted for Oregon students and educators.

Making the Connections

Oregon Public Education Network helps bring the Information Super Highway to Oregon classrooms by facilitating network connections and servicing those connections through technical and user support services.

OPEN also helps facilitate statewide video conferencing through the Oregon Access network. The Oregon Access network allows for delivery of classroom as well as professional development content.

Future Plans

  • Ongoing implementation and enhancement of the OPEN network backbone infrastructure.
  • Establish regional, district, and school networks to provide a connection to every classroom in Oregon.
  • Provide a single point for students, teachers, counselors and parents to find available on-line or video-conference based classes.
  • Provide a single point for school employees to locate professional development opportunities locally and across the state.
